Just west of San Luis Obispo, and a bit south of Morro Bay, you will find some of SLO County’s best mountain biking.  “MDO” has multiple routes for rides, including the Ridge Trail, East Boundary, Barranca, Hazzard Canyon, and Islay Creek Road, and the Manzanita Trail.  Most of the rides are single track, and it is now possible to loop a nearly 100% single track experience without having to venture on to the main road, or drop in on fire road.

The rides have steep climbs and descents, and can be fairly thrashed in the summer time.  Beginners may choose to ride the Bluff Trail for Ocean Views, or ride the Islay Creek Road for a scenic canyon out and back.

There is also a new Ridge Trail (now called Hazzard Peak) which is a great trail, although not as much fun as the old one due to it’s lack of speed and technichal difficulty.  However,  it is much more user friendly and should serve more riders now.   It is also very scenic.  I miss the old one.

Intermediate to advanced riders will enjoy the East Boundary and Barranca trails.  Great single track!

Hit Spooner Cove at the end of the day to check out the tide pools or take a dip.  This park has a lot more to offer than just riding.  Check out the Montana De Oro link for more information.
